The Wynne–Jones Memorial Lecture

Lord Wynne-Jones of Abergele

Kristin Wynne–Jones, eldest daughter of the late Lord Wynne-Jones of Abergele, has set up a fund through the US Friends of Newcastle University to commemorate her father's great contribution to teaching and management at Newcastle. Kristin, a Chemistry graduate from Oxford and Columbia Universities, wished to celebrate her father's work with an annual Chemistry lecture on campus.

Lord Wynne–Jones was a distinguished Professor of Physical Chemistry at Newcastle from 1948 to 1956 and went on to become one of the first Pro-Vice Chancellors of the University. Created a life peer in 1965, he became the first Chancellor of Northumbria University in 1976.

He had been Chairman of the Polytechnic Council and was also formerly Professor of Chemistry at University College, Dundee and Head of the Chemistry Division of the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough. He died in 1982.

A short biography is available which gives further details of Lord Wynne–Jones' life and career.
