Discover Days

Discover Day

Chemistry Discover Day gives students the opportunity to be involved in experimental techniques not encountered or available at school. This is an annual event that takes place in March.

Our Discover Day (formerly 'Masterclass') is held in our state-of-the-art undergraduate synthetic laboratory. It will give students an idea of what it's like to study Chemistry at A Level and beyond.

At Discover Day, pairs of students will make and purify an ester. This is an essential ingredient as a flavouring in sweets and other confectionary products.

The lab work is complemented by our Chemistry of the Senses demonstration lecture. This is a presentation on potential careers with a university chemistry qualification.

You will also have a tour of the facilities in the School of Chemistry, guided by current undergraduate chemistry students.

This is a free event but numbers are limited. Students do not need to be nominated by their school to attend.
