These are held annually during and after the schools Easter holidays
Dr Peter Hoare started these workshops during his Royal Society of Chemistry School Teacher Fellowship year 2008-09. They have been repeated in each academic year since. They continue to prove popular with a variety of schools and colleges across the region.
They are offered for both AS and A2 Chemistry, tailored to fit the two most common A-level Chemistry specifications studied in North East schools, namely AQA and OCR A.
We can still deliver individual modules in schools and colleges by request but the on campus workshops are now generic AS and A2 workshops, each covering selected topics from the whole of each year. They will run between 10.00am and 4.00pm each day and include two interactive revision sessions with a one hour break for lunch (12.30 - 1.30 pm).
The dates for the 2015 workshops are:
AS Workshops: Thursday 9th April & Friday 10th April.
A2 Workshops: Tuesday 7th April & Wednesday 8th April.
All workshops will be held in a lecture theatre in the Bedson Building - either LT3 (1.75) or LT1 (G.04) - venue depending on number of attendees - but they will be clearly signposted on each day and announced on this webpage.
You can access the flyer for the Easter 2015 AS workshops here and the A2 workshops here.
Each revision session consists of a short summary of the key points and typical student misconceptions from each selected topic area. This is followed by a variety of on-screen questions which the students answer using electronic voting handsets. Each student is also provided with a revision booklet containing a comprehensive set of revision notes covering all topics for each year.
Thanks to continued support from RSC ChemNet, we are able to offer up to 110 places at the on campus workshops free to ChemNet members. This is first come, first served but there is only one free workshop place per member to ensure as many eligible students can benefit from this. See below to access the ChemNet members booking form.
You will need to provide your membership number when you book.
