A-level Revision Workshops

These are held annually during and after the schools Easter holidays

students in a lecture theatre

Dr Peter Hoare started these workshops during his Royal Society of Chemistry School Teacher Fellowship year 2008-09. They have been repeated in each academic year since and continue to prove popular with a variety of schools and colleges across the region.

They are offered for both AS and A2 Chemistry, tailored to fit the two most common A-level Chemistry specifications studied in North East schools, namely AQA and OCR (A).

We can still deliver individual modules in schools and colleges by request but the on campus workshops are now generic AS and A2 workshops, each covering selected topics from the whole of each year. They will run between 10.00am and 4.00pm each day and include two interactive revision sessions with a one hour break for lunch (12.30 - 1.30 pm).

The dates for the 2016 workshops are:

AS Workshops: Thursday 7th April OR Friday 8th April.

A2 Workshops: Monday 4th April OR Tuesday 5th April.

All workshops will be held in either Lecture Theatre 1 (Alec Campbell) on the ground floor or Lecture Theatre 3 on the first floor of the Bedson Building - access via the Edward's Walk entrance - no. 20 on the campus map. Which lecture theatre is being used for each workshop will be clearly signposted on the day. There will be a registration desk in the foyer manned by some of our Chemistry Student Ambassadors who will check you off on the registers and issue you with the workshop materials.

You can access the flyer for the Easter 2015 AS workshops here and the A2 workshops here.

Each revision session consists of a short summary of the key points and typical student misconceptions from each selected topic area. This is followed by a variety of on-screen questions which the students answer using electronic voting handsets. Each student is also provided with a revision booklet containing a comprehensive set of revision notes covering all topics for each year.
