A-level Revision Workshops
Biannual events - held each December and around Easter
Easter A-level Revision Workshop dates now available for online booking!
These workshops were instigated by Dr Peter Hoare during his RSC School Teacher Fellowship year in 2008-09 and were repeated in the following academic year 2009-10. They continue to prove popular with a variety of schools and colleges across the region.
They are offered for both AS and A2 Chemistry, tailored to fit the two most common A-level Chemistry specifications studied in North-East schools, namely AQA and OCR A - separate A2 workshops are now offered for AQA and OCR A at A2 level, as the distribution of topics between the two A2 modules of each Board are now significantly different.
Each workshop consists of two 2 hour interactive revision sessions with a lunch break between - lunch is provided in the University Bistro for the on-campus workshops. Each session consists of a short summary of the key points and typical student misconceptions from each selected topic area, followed by a variety of on-screen questions which the students answer using electronic voting handsets - hence the "interactive". Each student is also provided with a revision booklet containing a comprehensive set of revision notes.

The dates for the Easter 2012 Revision Workshops are detailed below and the online booking form may be accessed here. This information will also been advertised by e-mail to all our schools contacts. Venue will be either Lecture Theatre 3 or Lecture Theatre 1 in the Bedson Building, depending on total numbers booked for each workshop.
Monday 26th March - A2 OCR workshop; 10.00am - 3.00pm; venue Lecture Theatre 3, 1st floor, Bedson Building.
Tuesday 27th March - A2 AQA workshop; 10.00am - 3.00pm; venue Lecture Theatre 3, 1st floor, Bedson Building.
Thursday 29th March - AS workshop - AQA/OCR Unit 2 ; 10.00am - 3.00pm; venue Lecture Theatre 3, 1st floor, Bedson Building.
As with previous workshops, there will be a charge of £10 per student, which includes a comprehensive revision notes booklet and, for these on campus workshops, lunch in the University Bistro.
The workshops had previously only been offered in one of our main lecture theatres in the School of Chemistry in school term-time, but last year, due to requests from regional schools, we repeated each of the workshops in the second week of the schools Easter holidays which were attended by a total of 200 students over the three days - we will be repeating this at Easter 2012; the dates for these workshops are:
