How to Apply

Chemistry administration team

All postgraduate applications should be made via the University's online application form. After submitting the form, you should ask your referees to send their letters of recommendation to the admissions tutor, Dr Ben Horrocks

Postgraduate Research Degrees, PhD/ MPhil

Your application will be considered on its academic merit separately from questions of funding and we are interested primarily in the following information:

  • Your university qualifications, e.g., BSc — subject, class or GPA, transcript.
  • Relevant work experience, e.g., with a chemical company.
  • A brief statement of your research interests — 50 words is sufficient. Please type this into the web form.
  • An indication of which supervisors you would prefer to work with. Please feel free to consult the staff pages and contact potential supervisors to ask about their research interests, facilities and possible projects.
Postgraduate Taught Degrees, MSc

The MSc in Drug Chemistry is aimed at students wishing to pursue a career in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. We do not insist upon a BSc in Chemistry as the entry requirement, but we do require evidence of study of organic chemistry at degree level.

If your first degree is in pharmacy, biochemistry or other chemistry-related disciplines, you may be suitably qualified, but we would appreciate a transcript and a letter of reference describing your knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry.
