The Chemistry Postgraduate Committee is a student run forum that meets once a month to raise and resolve issues that affect postgraduates within the Department of Chemistry. It is comprised of 4 postgraduate representatives (one from each of the areas: organic, inorganic, physical and nano), a postgraduate chair, the head of school (Prof. Mike Green), the school safety officer and technical services manager (Mr. Andrew Crawford) and a secretary. (For a list of current committee members, see the Committee Members page.)

The primary objective of the committee is to represent the opinions of postgraduate researchers within the department, and work alongside managers within the school and faculty to develop solutions to any issues raised.

Alongside this specific role, the committee also looks to find new ways of enhancing the postgraduate experience and seeks to create a more integrated community within the department by arranging events such as free postgraduate lunches on a monthly basis. Further to this, all committee members are available to provide help and advice to postgraduates that may have specific problems that don’t necessarily affect the rest of the school. In these instances, the committee may be able to help directly or indirectly by helping you to obtain the appropriate support from another department (e.g. the union society).

The committee is by no means solely representative of negative views, and indeed positive feedback from postgraduates is encouraged in order to determine what aspects of the school are operated well, so that good practices may be emulated in less successful areas. If you have any questions about any aspects of the committee, wish to express your interest in becoming a representative when a position becomes available, or have any issues to raise/comments to make, please contact your representative directly using the e-mail addresses on the Committee Members page.
