Computing Support and Facilities

There is an extensive computer infrastructure across the school, with access points in every office and laboratory to the university local area network. In addition, there are a wide range of computational facilities to service particular research requirements; these include small, general-purpose clusters in teaching laboratories, file servers and high-performance computing clusters.

The computing infrastructure is managed by Dr Jerry Hagon. He can provide help in many areas of computing including:

  • general management of windows common desktop and linux systems;
  • linux-based filestore and backup provision with integration to the campus windows domain;
  • aspects of web server implementation/editing including apache,html,css,php,mysql;
  • some experience with the following computer programming langauages: fortran, c, c++, java, perl, python, ruby, php;
  • linux-based high-performance computing clusters (with batch-queuing if required);
  • database (mysql, access) and spreadsheet programming;
  • data/numerical analysis and visualization;
  • TeX/LaTeX support;
  • computational chemistry (both on the theoretical and computational side) with experience in setting up many standard packages on high-performance linux clusters, including Gaussian, GAMESS-UK, GAMESS-US, Spartan, aimpro and TurboMole.

Please feel free to get in touch If you have any specific requirements not mentioned above.
