NMR Home Page

High Resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy is used by a large number of fields within chemistry and allied disciplines as a means of analysing materials and monitoring reactions, and for the detailed studies of the intracacies of chemical structures.

The NMR machines within the Chemistry Department are housed in a purpose-built air-conditioned laboratory.  The machines are fundamental to research within the school and are used in the areas of medicinal chemistry, synthesis and biological chemistry, catalysis, synthesis, transition and main group chemistry, and nanoscience.  They are also used by several of the Undergraduate Teaching Labs.

Spectrometers

This page gives details about the Chemistry Department's 3 NMR Spectrometers.

Information for users

This page is for staff and students within the Chemistry Department at Newcastle.  It has information about training, submission of samples, and also details about accessing data/NMR PDFs on the server computer.

External NMR Service

This page contains information for any external users who wish to make use of the NMR Facility (industry or other departments within the University).

The NMR facility is managed by Dr Corinne Wills, (c.y.wills@ncl.ac.uk) 0191 222 6851.
