`First in Europe' Cancer Equipment Delivered to Newcastle

The first of a new generation of cyclotrons for the production of the isotope 18F, used as a tracer for detecting cancers, has been delivered to the Chemistry Department here at Newcastle. Purchased through a record contribution from the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, the instrument will greatly assist in the development of methodologies for the treatment of cancer and will make a major contribution to the already extensive efforts being made by various groups at Newcastle to fight this and other diseases.
