Why not consider combining a half-day Laboratory Session with a half-day Spectroscopy Visit to make a full day event?
Schools and colleges frequently bring their year 12 or 13 classes for our Spectroscopy Workshops, designed to tie-in with current A-level specifications.
The day begins with an introductory presentation in lecture theatre 3 (LT3) to the general phenomena of Spectroscopy and Spectrometry by a member of academic staff.
This is followed by a tour of our facilities and a chance to meet our experts; David Dunbar who runs the Mass Spectrometry service; Dr. Corinne Wills in the NMR centre, Dr. Zuleykha McMillan for infra-red spectroscopy and Dr. Ulrich Baisch in the X-ray Crystallography suite.
After the tour of the building, we return to LT3 for a 30 minute problem solving class where the students can use their analytical skills to assign spectra and identify unknown compounds.
Approximate timings for a visit:
1.45 - 2.45; Spectroscopy lecture in LT3
2.45 - 4.00; Tour of the Spectroscopic facilities
4.00 - 4.30; Problem-solving workshop in LT3
These visits are very popular so please book in advance here.
