Background

Outside of my work interests, I initiate and organise a number of chemistry related outreach and promotional activities, mainly on the behalf the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). I am assistant secretary and CLS representative for the Newcastle and North East Coast section of the RSC and recently joined the Northumbria branch of the British Science Association as programme co-ordinator.

The most recent successes have been a renewable energy workshop for primary school children and assisting Cumbria RSC section in starting their regional top of the bench competition.

2005, 2007 and 2009: RSC local section joint organiser of Chemistry week activities in Newcastle.

2006 and 2007: Royal Society partnership grants with St Teresa's primary school, Heaton in conjunction with Dr. Karl Jankowski, St Mary's Comprehensive.

2005-2008: Joint organiser of the buckyball challenge with Dr. Ashleigh fletcher.

2006-2008: Organiser of the RSC local School's quiz
2007-2008: Organiser of the RSC local sixth form lecture
2007-2008: Organiser of the RSC local year 6 lecture
2007- CSI style event for Year 10 at Marden Comprehensive
2008: Talk at St Stephen's careers event

2008: Organised a stand at Thomas Hepburn schools science week event.

2008: Renewable Energy workshop and hydrogen rocket launch for year 6 pupils of St Teresa's and St Stephen's primary schools, with the Sir Jospeh Swan institute. Supported by Newcastle University's Catherine Cookson fund.

2008: Organiser of inaugral North East Chemistry careers fair in association with the RSC's Chemnet.

2007-2010: Member of chemical crystallography group (CCG) committee of the BCA

2008: Local organiser of the Chemical Crystallography Group Autumn meeting at Newcastle
