Reasons for choosing the University:
I chose to study chemistry because it is a well-respected degree, which can lead to professions outside the laboratory. I chose Newcastle because of the year in industry which I spent at Kodak Ltd and found extremely useful when applying for jobs after graduation.
Career Path:
Gained employment with Viasystems Ltd, the largest manufacturer of printed circuit boards in Europe, who make circuit boards for Motorola, Ericsson, Philips and Marconi amongst others. Since then employed as an engineer on several projects including:
- Responsibility for output and quality in the metallisation process.
- Researching and implementing the change of the dry film resist material in the Imaging department.
- Responsibility for quality improvements and scrap reduction.
- Responsibility for product quality and Health and Safety.
- Supervision of five process technicians.
