Politics

This subject is offered by the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology.

Subject summary

Politics focuses on the contemporary world and the processes, institutions and ideas which shape it. As students of Politics you will be able to study a wide range of different political systems from those found in Britain, the United States and the European Union to those found in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

You will be able to study the ideas which underpin these political systems and which have inspired political action from the contributions of figures such as Machiavelli and Marx through to contemporary political theorists such as John Rawls and Robert Nozick.

In addition, you will be able to look beyond the nation-state. Politics offers a range of modules which study both cooperation and conflict between states and other actors in the international realm.
