‘Sustainable Energy through China-UK Research Engagement’ is an EPSRC initiative promoting research collaborations between UK and China. Dr. Madeline Balaam (School of Computing Science) and Dr. Thomas Ploetz (School of Computing Science) will be (Co-)PIs on this project entitled 'Energy reduction through Promoting Sustainable Living'.

A TSB preparation award has been granted to Prof. Ilias Kyriazakis (Agriculture), Prof. Patrick Olivier (School of Computing Science) and Dr. Thomas Ploetz (School of Computing Science). to explore computational behaviour analysis in a farm environment. More specifically they will analyse group behaviour of pigs with the objective of early detection of sick animals (to prevent disease spread).

Prof. Andrew Benniston and Dr. Peter Andras have been awarded a TSB fund to develop novel dyes for neuroscience. Their preliminary data suggests that they can produce improved voltage sensitive dyes that will make neuroimaging cheaper and more accessible.

The School of Computing Science has just received funding for the UNCOVER project (understanding complex system evolution through structured behaviours). Prof. Maciej Koutny, Prof. Brian Randell, Dr. Victor Khomenko from the School and Prof. Alex Yakovlev (School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering) will be working on the project, starting early next year.

PowerProp is a newly funded project by EPSRC EFuturesXD. This is a joint EEE/CS Working Together effort led by, Prof. Sascha Romanovsky, Dr. Andrey Mokhov and Prof. Alex Yakovlev. The topic is cross-layer (i.e. both software and hardware) power-proportionality as a method of building energy-efficient systems.
