Jill Green elected to perform the role of Deputy Mayor of Gateshead

Jill Green has held the role of a local Labour Councillor, actively serving the Pelaw & Heworth Ward in Gateshead for 6 years.

Yesterday, Jill Green  (Research Administrator for the SRS Research Group, and the Centre for Software Reliability)  was duly elected to perform the role of Deputy Mayor of Gateshead.

The Mayoral inauguration ceremony will take place at the meeting of Full Council on 12thMay 2017, at Gateshead Civic Centre, where both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor receive their chains and robes of office. The Mayor of Gateshead is the First Citizen of the borough. It is considered the highest honour to become Mayor. 

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be serving councillors who will select a Mayoress or Consort (if male) to accompany them. Jill will carry out the role of Deputy Mayor with her partner, Mr Mark Bradley acting as her consort. The Mayor, or the Deputy Mayor sign official documents for the borough, preside over full meetings of the Council and represent the borough at civic functions in Gateshead and neighbouring authorities. During a typical year the Mayor and, or the Deputy Mayor will attend around 1,000 functions inside and outside the borough.
