Legal & General invest £65m in our new Neighbourhood

Legal & General have announced the completion of a £65m investment deal which will fund developments around the School of Computing Science’s new home in Science Central.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Nigel Wilson, CEO of Legal & General, praised the “new-found entrepreneurial spirit amongst both the students and the academics” with the potential to drive economic growth.

Professor John Fitzgerald of the School of Computing Science commented, “On Science Central, the School’s new neighbours will include the National Institute for Smart Data Innovation, the new Newcastle Laboratory for life sciences and healthcare businesses, a Learning & Teaching Centre, and now two major buildings for business funded by Legal & General. All of these businesses are enabled by computing technology. Over the next few years, Science Central is going to become an increasingly exciting place to study and work, as our research results and our graduates create new businesses and real high-value jobs. Our students will be central to that.”

The School moves to its new premises in the Urban Sciences Building in August 2017, ready to welcome students from 25 September.
