Dr Marie Devlin



I joined the School of Computing Science in 2005 as a Teaching Fellow in the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning Project: Active Learning in Computing. I was promoted to Lecturer in 2012. At present I am Senior Tutor in the School and also Degree Programme Director for the MSc Computer Science. I am also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and contribute to pedagogical research and insight in the HE STEM community. I also act as Faculty Liaison Officer for the Certificate in Advanced Studies in Academic Practice Programme run by the Staff Development Unit at Newcastle. I took on the role of Director for Excellence in Learning and Teaching in the School of Computing in August 2017.


I currently help with teaching CSC2022 Software Engineering Team Project and have adapted a Problem-Based Learning approach for students in the module including activities such as Dragon's Den and a Trade Fair. 

I also teach: CSC8005 - Software Engineering with Group Project (MSc. Comp. Sci.)

                     CSC8008 - Information Management - Databases (MSc. Comp. Sci.)

I contribute to teaching on CSC3095 Stage 3 Project and Dissertation 


My research interests include the assessment of Software Engineering Competency and the Usability of mobile devices and software for Education. I am also interested in peer and self-assessment, skills for employability and the internationalisation of the Computing curriculum.
