DOTS - Diversity with Off-The-Shelf Components

The general goal of this project is to support decisions both in the acceptance of a system including Off-The-Shelf (OTS) items and in its design or, broadly, development, i.e. in the choice and combination of OTS items, their interconnection and system-level verification. The unifying theme is that of predicting and assessing the reliability achieved in an OTS-based system: even indications for design and development activities can only be justified in terms of their predicted effect on the system's reliability. There are two subproblems in decisions about diversity, and our investigation will generally proceed from the first to the second: structuring redundancy (the proper organisation and structuring of a redundant system) and achieving diversity between the failure behaviours of the diverse component
