NETWISE - Software Tools and Techniques for Network Wide Services

Network based distributed applications are rapidly coming into existence. Their services will attract a potentially large user base extending over a long period of time. At the same time, these services will need to evolve to meet new user demands. Furthermore, by their very nature, most network services are expected to be long-lived. As such, they must allow changes to their structure be made without interference with normal operation. NETWISE will develop methods and tools for designing and implementing network services for information sharing that are dependable, extensible and adaptable by concentrating on four tasks: (i) Software Structuring Techniques; (ii) Distributed Computing Infrastructure; (iii) Dependable Services and Change Management; and (iv) Demonstrator Applications and Technology Transfer. The collective results from these tasks will lead to innovative software technology that application builders will demand for constructing network wide services.
