Newcastle University's Careers Service is second to none. We have one of the largest and best resourced HE careers services in the UK, enjoying a great reputation locally and nationally - our Careers Service was the first service in the UK to be awarded the Matrix Quality Standard, acknowledging the superb quality of our advice and guidance. In addition to your academic work, employers look for evidence of skills and experience gained during your time at university and we develop our new and existing degrees so they accurately reflect the skills employers want. In addition, the ncl+ initiative offers a breathtaking range of extra-curricular opportunities at Newcastle to add to your degree and enhance your employability.

We believe that the diverse curriculum, environment and student experience provide the opportunities for students to acquire the following learning, working and life values:

  • Enable personal goals and aspirations to be met through self-directed continuous learning
  • Apply a can-do attitude to taking calculated risks and challenging personal boundaries
  • Create and cultivate cross-cultural relationships to develop knowledge, skills, understanding and opportunities

These values are underpinned by the promotion and development of the interrelated skills and competencies within our Graduate Skills Framework. The Framework was developed with employers to define a set of skills which, in conjunction with their degree, will give students the skills they will need in life beyond university.
