Course: MComp Computer Science (Game Engineering)
I fell in love with the city and university as soon as I got there. The lecturers were really friendly and made me feel welcome. Everything in the city is within walking distance so it is easy access.
About your course
I really enjoy the programming side of the course where I get to further my knowledge and learn new skills. I think that the teaching is very good and there is always help available when needed.
I live in The View next to St James’s Park. It is very fancy accommodation that is worth every penny. It is really easy to sort out your accommodation.
Living in Newcastle
The nightlife is brilliant part of University social life and there are lots of societies and activities to get involved in.
I would recommend buying food and drinks in bulk because it will work out cheaper for you. Try and avoid spending money on takeaways and ready-meals as it will work out costly in the long run.
There are over a hundred activities and societies you can get involved with. I am part of the NUCAT society and there are many social and technology events you can go to. We organised a 24 hour gameathon for charity which was a huge success.
After I graduate I am hoping to go into the games industry, either as a programmer or on the marketing side of things. I am passionate about this industry.
Newcastle is a Russell Group University and is the only university in the group that offers the type of course I am studying. It has many great connections with many companies in the industry.
There are many members of staff who can help out with anything I am stuck with regarding interviews etc. The Careers Service also offers many services to improve your confidence and interview skills.
