The Prevent duty statutory Guidance requires the University, when deciding whether or not to host an external event with an external speaker(s) to ‘consider carefully whether the views being expressed, or likely to be expressed, constitute extremist views that risk drawing people into terrorism or are shared by terrorist groups.’ An external speaker is anyone who is not a student or staff member of the University or Students' Union.
In considering whether or not to permit an event or activity to go ahead, the named organiser, ie a member of the Conference Office team, will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the obligations placed upon them under this policy, and will complete an External Speaker booking form which will include a risk assessment.
The following documents outline the External Speaker Policy (PDF: 288 KB) and must be read prior to your making an enquiry, we are unable to confirm your event until the necessary procedures have been completed.
