Find out what's on in the region from Newcastle City Council's Cityeye.
Newcastle is the regional capital. It is a thriving city with a reputation for the friendly welcome it extends to visitors from around the world.
Attractions include theatres, art galleries, museums and the famous Quayside with its vibrant nightlife. Newcastle was recently voted the eighth liveliest city in Europe. There are over 160 restaurants to choose from and China Town less than 15 minutes walk from the main campus.
The Eldon Square complex, almost adjacent to the campus, includes department stores, shops, cafes, fast food restaurants and a sports and leisure centre. The renowned Metro Centre, Europe's largest indoor shopping complex, is within easy reach by bus.

Northumbria is one of the least known (and most unspoilt) regions of England. It contains the Cheviot Hills reaching to the Scottish border, some 50 miles of coastline of outstanding natural beauty and Hadrians Wall, Holy Island and the Farne Islands.
It is home to many castles where the violent border battles are now replaced by a tranquillity that is not easily found elsewhere.
The Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors are within easy reach of a day-trip, and it is only 50 miles to the Scottish Borders.
