Creating Sustainable Places

Location: Penthouse, Herschel Building
Time/Date: 4th November 2010, 14:00 - 17:00

A Second Invitation for colleagues in the Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Science, Agriculture and Engineering This is an opportunity for participants from different disciplines across the university to consider how we might contribute to research towards ‘Creating Sustainable Places’. The title is broad to leave scope for interpretation from a range of perspectives. We are not expecting the event to produce immediate research proposals, but want it to be a chance to find out about the tools that different disciplines might offer and to create new links across the university. There will be a speaker, group discussions and opportunities to network, as follows:

14.00 A semi-structured networking session to give everyone a chance to meet each other

14.30 Speaker: Mark Reed, Deputy Director of the Aberdeen Centre for Environmental Sustainability at the University of Aberdeen, and member of the Centre for Planning and Environmental Management, University of Aberdeen (see below)

Mark will draw on his experience of leading interdisciplinary teams to offer us food for thought about the potential of interdisciplinary collaboration.

15.10 Small group discussions (with tea): From the standpoint of our own disciplines, how might we individually contribute to research towards ‘Creating Sustainable Places’?

This theme may be interpreted as broadly as you wish. Be ready to explain (but not to justify) your interpretation.

16.15 Plenary to discuss results from discussions and raise further questions

17.00 Close
