Undergraduate students in any field, and Masters and PhD students in synthetic biology, can also apply to be members of the annual Newcastle iGEM team. iGEM is the international Genetically Engineered Machines competition, run out of MIT in Cambridge, USA.
iGEM teams devise a synthetic biology project, build it, and present their work to teams from all around the world – all in the space of a couple of months. iGEM is a challenging, but fulfilling, experience, and provides a unique hands-on experience of the synthetic biology process.
