2010 saw the conclusion of the highly successful Regional Insights programme delivered by CURDS in coordination with Regional Development Agency, One NorthEast. Over the course of the two year programme, over 600 delegates - drawn from within North East’s policy making community – attended the events, ranging from all day workshops to international guest lectures. The programme emerged from the CURDS/GHK study “What Works in Regional Economic Development”, which provided international comparative analysis of regional policy interventions to inform the ‘Leading the Way’ Regional Economic Strategy 2006-11. One NorthEast subsequently commissioned CURDS to develop a programme of international policy workshops to help build the evidence base for the then proposed North East Strategy. As a result, Regional Insights – led by Professor Tomaney and Dr Stuart Dawley - has drawn upon CURDS’ extensive international academic and policy-related networks to deliver a coordinated programme of expert speakers in addressing the key issues facing the North East region.
