From May 1999 to February 2000
Project Leader(s): David Charles
Staff: David Bradley, Paul Benneworth, Neil Pollock
Sponsors: CEC - DGXIII
Partners: University of Maastricht

The aim of this project is to take stock of the results achieved so far within the RITTS programme, in order to help define its evolution in the future, and to diffuse lessons learnt to a wide audience of policy makers.

The study has three main elements:

1. Evaluation of scheme design and delivery

2. Impact assessment

3. Suggestions for future policies and good practice lessons

For each of these elements there will be a combination of study methods used within a six stage process, to include desk research, a questionnaire survey in all regions, and case studies involving interviews with key partners and beneficiaries in approximately half of all regional projects.

The project report will be available from

Summaries of this work and eleven other projects concerned with building an innovative economy in Europe are also on the European Commission web site in pdf format.
