Project:

Skills Observatory Pilot : Research Network and Infrastructure for North East Skills Observatory

From September 2001 to March 2002
Project Leader(s): Andy Gillespie
Staff: Liz Robson, Cheryl Conway, James Cornford
Sponsors: One NorthEast
Partners: University of Northumbria, Northumberland LSC and other agencies in the region

The project aims to:

  • create a network and ICT infrastructure to support the work of the North East Skills Observatory once it is established
  • create a programme of seminars and workshops to share best practice and build capacity in skills analysis
  • complement the work of the individual project partners by adding an intra-regional and inter-regional comparative component to analysis
  • systematically gather, analyse and disseminate 'dirty data' (data held in management information and other monitoring and information systems) to partners
  • identify ongoing information and research requirements of strategic organisations and establish the means of generating this data
  • provide a database of analysed information which can be used by partner organisations to inform their client groups about changing skill requirements within the region and sub-regions.
