Project:

ESPON : Telecommunication Services and Networks: Territorial Trends and Basic Supply of Infrastructure

From September 2002 to August 2004
Project Leader(s): Ranald Richardson
Staff: Andy Gillespie, Jonathan Rutherford
Sponsors: EU (ESPON/INTERREG II)

CURDS is lead partner in a new project, which commenced in September 2002 and will run for two years. The project is called "Telecommunication Services and Networks: Territorial Trends and Basic Supply of Infrastructure for Territorial Cohesion (TS&N)". The project is funded under the European Spatial Planning Observation Network (ESPON) Programme, an EU INTERREG III Community Initiative.

The two overarching aims of the project are to:

  • provide a better understanding of the relationship between telecommunication infrastructures and services and balanced spatial development, and;
  • to create a platform (data, indicators, concepts and methodologies) upon which future research and policy can build.

The project is an ambitious one and aims, inter alia, to collect and map comparable data on key telecommunications indicators at the regional level for EU 27 plus Norway and Switzerland.
