6. The Eight Data Protection Principles -Overview

6.1 The eight data protection principles are based on three key concepts:

    1. Purpose – personal data must only be held for a clear purpose or purposes

    2. Fairness – personal data must only be processed for legitimate purposes

    3. Transparency – data subjects must be given certain basic information about the personal data held about them
