The Dental Clinical Research Facility (CRF) is a dedicated clinical research environment within the Newcastle School of Dental Sciences and Dental Hospital for conducting high quality clinical dental research. It has been developed to accommodate all strands of clinical dental research, including quantitative and qualitative research, clinical trials and translational research.
The unit comprises 4 fully equipped dental surgeries in which all types of dental procedures can be undertaken. Two of the surgeries are equipped with operating microscopes and digital radiography for advanced surgical and restorative procedures.
A full range of clinical dental research can be undertaken, including restorative dentistry, endodontics, periodontics, implant research, dental materials research, paediatric dentistry, local anaesthetic studies, fluoride therapy, nutritional research, and surgical procedures. Portfolio research studies and clinical trials are prioritised, but the CRF can also be used to support smaller projects and pump priming research.
The Dental CRF is supported by three fully equipped research laboratories located within the same building specialising in Dental Materials, Fluoride and Cell and Molecular Biosciences research. Clinical samples obtained in the Dental CRF can be transported directly to these research laboratories which are all located in the School of Dental Sciences. The Dental CRF and associated laboratories offer full processing and storage facilities for therapeutics, materials and biological samples.
The Dental CRF is the perfect location for conducting translational clinical dental research and industry sponsored clinical trials.
