Dr John Meechan from the School of Dental Sciences was one of the keynote speakers at the Scottish Dental Show held in Glasgow on 24th and 25th of May. Despite the atypical Mediterranean-style weather, over 1200 delegates attended the event at Hampden Park, the home of Scottish football. The show was opened by Michael Matheson MSP, who is the Public Health Minister in Scotland.Dr Meechan gave a presentation entitled “An update on local anaesthesia”. This was based on the ongoing clinical and laboratory-based research being carried out at the Centre for Oral Health Research and outlined the impact this research has made on dental practice.John’s first attendance at Hampden Park was on the 26th September 1961 and it has taken him over 50 years to achieve a long-held ambition – to get on the pitch and kick a ball. Thanks to the efforts of Septodont, who sponsored John’s lecture, that dream was fulfilled on 25th May 2012.
