Richard Holmes, one of the School’s National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Research Fellows, was one of 3 prize winners in the Doctoral category at the annual national NIHR trainees conference in Leeds.

Running from 19-20th September, the congress attracted 250 NIHR trainees from across the country. His prize-winning poster presentation "Priority Setting in NHS Dentistry: Comparing costs and benefits in a prioritisation framework" was based on aspects of his PhD research, supervised by Jimmy Steele and Cath Exley from Newcastle University and Cam Donaldson from Glasgow Caledonian University.

The competition was judged by an illustrious panel comprising:

  • Dr Russell Hamilton, Director of R&D, Department of Health
  • Dr Lisa Cotterill, Director, NIHR TCC
  • Dr David Cox, Deputy Director, Research Faculty, Department of Health
  • Professor Jim Neilson, NIHR Dean for Training
