What We Do

Dental student in teaching labThe Dental School and Hospital is a vibrant community that brings together:

  • University and NHS staff
  • students of dentistry and allied professions
  • teachers and researchers
  • scientists and support staff from a diverse range of professional and cultural backgrounds.

Our primary mission is to train the student dentists and dental care professionals (dental nurses, dental technicians, dental hygienists and therapists) who will manage, support and deliver oral health services for the next generation.

Well-equipped teaching clinics give our students experience in a range of dental procedures before they provide free dental treatment for the public under the expert supervision of experienced staff.

Research is central to the School and Hospital, with specialist research facilities for basic science and clinical research. We also benefit from our intimate links with the University's Medical School, NHS Trust, the broader facilities and expertise of Newcastle University, and our many collaborators at home and overseas.
