Research Interests

Pathogenesis of periodontal diseases; risk factors for periodontal diseases; genetic aspects of aggressive periodontal diseases; clinical trial design; ethics of clinical trials; efficacy of powered toothbrushes; pharmacological treatments for periodontal diseases.

Aetiology and prevalence of gingival recession investigated through systematic review, epidemiological study, clinical trial (RCT) evaluating toothbrushing factors as possible predisposing or causal factors.

The vast majority of my research is sponsored and or funded by industrial partners who are major investors in the oral healthcare market.


Third strand work with Knowledge House and external companies in developing oral hygiene products that are patented and being developed through product testing protocols, assessed through market research and ultimately brought to market.
