Electives
At Newcastle our students are actively encouraged to enrich their professional and personal lives by undertaking a period of elective study.
Opportunities for student exchange are available through the ERASMUS scheme. In recent years our students have benefitted from attachments to the University of Helsinki, Finland and Greifswald, Germany. Typically, students transfer for three months at the start of Stage 4, and have the opportunity to experience different educational and clinical environments, as well as gaining valuable cultural insights.
At the end of Stage 4 our students have up to eight weeks to travel, to attend clinics at home or overseas or to undertake some research. We have a vast network of dental contacts around the world; recent students have engaged in everything from observing top-level cosmetic practice in New York City to expeditions providing basic dental care in the Amazon basin.
