These
are exciting and challenging times for dentistry. Where dental disease was once
accepted as one of the problems of modern life, we now know that much of it
can be prevented. This has stimulated research and a demand for better ways
of preventing and treating dental disease and has changed the way that dentists
are trained. At Newcastle we are meeting this challenge with a dental course
designed to give you both the scientific background and the practical skills
you will need throughout your career to make the best use of new materials and
put into practice the most up-to-date advances in dentistry. Members of staff
are actively involved in dental research and bring this understanding and knowledge
to your teaching.

It is School policy that no applicant, who is judged academically suitable, should be refused admission on the grounds of disability without very significant reason and in accordance with the guidelines of fitness to practise set out by the General Dental Council. We therefore welcome applications from disabled people and encourage applicants to contact the Disability Support Service or the School to discuss any concerns or queries they may have. Sometimes an applicant may be invited to attend an information visit in the Disability Support Service or in the School. This visit provides an opportunity to talk to the disability support team and academic staff, to discuss support requirements and assess the suitability of the course and facilities offered and to ask any questions. Visits to the University and campus tours can also be arranged through the Disability Support Service.
If you require any further information regarding the course, please contact dental.ugadmin@ncl.ac.uk.
