Disability Equality Scheme
"The number of disabled staff and students at Newcastle University has increased substantially over the last decade. We now have nearly 1000 disabled students (5.6% in 2004/5) and over 100 disabled staff (2.3% in 2005). These percentage figures are similar to those in other universities and UK HEIs in general.
We believe that an inclusive approach benefits all and enables everyone to contribute to our community. Newcastle University is opposed to any form of unfair discrimination on the grounds of disability, ethnicity, gender identity, age, sexual orientation, religion or belief or any other characteristic and views disability as an important strand of diversity. It promotes disability equality within that broader agenda and is committed to providing an environment for students and staff where respect is shown to all and where everyone is valued and enabled to achieve their full potential."
