UTLC awarded an Innovation Grant 2008-2009 to Sue Robson, ECLS and Ruth O'Rourke, Routes into Languages to develop a programme to internationalize the student experience and support the development of students' intercultural skills while studying at Newcastle University. During 2009-2010 the following opportunities have been made available to students :
- Internationalise your degree - open access sessions were made available to students (pdf link)
- 'Gender language' - a cross-cultural communication lecture was delivered to HASS PGT students as part of the HASS Graduate Skills Enhancement Programme by Dr Alan Firth (pdf link)
- 'Intercultural Awareness' - a cross-cultural communication lecture was delivered to HASS PGT students as part of the HASS Graduate Skills Enhancement Programme by Dr Peter Sercombe (pdf link)
- Visit Day presentation - university services presentation to UCAS applicants. This presentation highlights how to make the most of your degree whilst at uni with info provided by Careers Service, Modern Languages, Students Union, International Office. - An Internationalising your university experience workshop was delivered to PGCE and MEd students by Cheryl Mackay and Ruth O'Rourke (large pdf link, 0.5MB)
- ESRC - This powerpoint provides the background (theory and rationale) for the initiative. The presentation was delivered as an invited keynote by Sue Robson to open an ESRC seminar series “Re-thinking the Needs of International Students: Critical Perspectives on the Internationalisation of UK Higher Education”:
