The Literacy Clinic was set up in 2004 staffed by qualified Speech and Language Therapists and fully supervised Speech and Language Therapy students.
The Literacy Clinic has been set up to provide a unique service to children with literacy difficulties which may or may not co-exist with other speech and/or language difficulties. It is staffed by qualified Speech and Language Therapists and fully supervised Speech and Language Therapy students.
Many children presenting with literacy difficulties, (i.e. reading, writing and spelling) have underlying deficits with speech and language skills
The Literacy Clinic is offering opportunities for a small number of children to be assessed and offered intensive therapy aimed at developing and extending their existing skill base. The primary focus of the clinic is to enhance literacy skills. In order to do this we sometimes work to improve a child's underlying speech and/or language skills where appropriate because impairments in spoken language can have a direct impact on literacy development.
