The Leadership and Management strand is for professionals concerned with educational leadership and management in all sectors of education, including; school leaders, administrators, consultants and (local) government officials.
The programme aims to help you achieve a critically reflective but practical understanding of key current issues in educational leadership and management. Distinctive features of the course are its international dimension, aimed at fostering a greater understanding of the comparative context of educational organisations, the practice-based MPA approach and a strong focus on the latest thinking and research on educational effectiveness and leadership.
Education professionals in all parts of the world need to devleop thier skills and understanding in leadership alongside their knowledge of learning and teaching.
Those at the start of their career benefit from understanding, for example, the management of change in order to meet the demands of new developments in their country's education system.
Those who have a first leadership responsibility for a subject area, for a section within a Ministry, for a team of education providers need to understand how people and projects are led and managed. There is a crisis of succession planning for senior leadership in education in many countries, and students in mid-career can develop their confidence in undertaking senior roles in their own country through their study of leadership and strategic management
All leadership strand students benefit from undertaking personal research into the educational leadership field, in order to link theory with on-the-ground practice. Through studying with students from other countries, and through the international examples discussed in the leadership strand, students are enabled to understand the wider leadership context of their educational system.
