Introduction

The generic pathway is intended for students who prefer not to specialise in one of the five pathways offered. Compulsory elements cover 3 different areas of expertise and research strengths currently available in ECLS

Who is this pathway for?

The generic pathway is designed for students who want to experience the best that Newcastle has to offer in terms of innovation and research, but who may not wish to specialise in one area or may find it difficult to decide on one pathway. Students on this pathway will sample key modules relating to each of the following areas: teaching and learning, leadership and management, education and development. This pathway will be of interest to education professionals keen to extend their knowledge and understanding of latest thinking in relation to education in the broadest sense, in order to develop their careers.

Generic Pathway Optional Modules

For 2009/10, all candidates shall select modules (not already selected) to the value of 40 credits from the optional modules list, bringing the total number of credits up to 180.

Outcomes

The programme leads to the award of the MEd.

Teaching

Teaching is via lectures, seminars, workshops, tutorials and interactive activities. Most modules are assessed by written assignments.
