CfLaT Research

The work of the Research Centre for Learning and Teaching builds on the work of two previous research centres in the former Department of Education: the Centre for Teaching for Understanding and the Thinking Skills Research Centre. It also acknowledges recent developments in the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences in refocusing the research activities of the school and therefore forms the hub of one of the key research areas.

The focus of research activity is to retain and further develop a distinctive profile in researching effective learning and teaching in the areas of

  • professional learning
  • effective pedagogy and classroom interaction
  • the use of ICT
  • learners' thinking and understanding.
