The E.G. West Centre

The mission of the E.G West Centre is to develop knowledge and understanding of the role of non-state education (e.g., private, non-formal, philanthropic and public-private partnerships) in achieving 'Education for All'.
To this end the Centre:

  • Researches and analyses the development of non-state education and its potential role in achieving "Education for All".
  • Conducts policy advice to governments and international agencies on the development of non-state education and conducive regulatory and investment environments;
  • Acts as an international clearing house for ideas on the development of non-state education.

The Centre is directed by James Tooley, Professor of Education Policy at the University of Newcastle, and to strengthen the Centre's global outlook it is supported by an international Advisory Council of academics and entrepreneurs from Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, China, Columbia, India, Hong Kong, Peru, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, UK and USA.
