The team at the Research Centre for Learning and Teaching has been involved in supporting a number of different groups of teachers completing action research within their own schools. This approach builds on the professional enquiry through action research methods that have been developed in projects such as the Learning to Learn in Schools Evaluations. Presently, we have two contracts running using providing this type of support. The first is with Northumberland LA through the Thinking for Learning Unit and is a programme for around 60 teachers (organised into 3 cohorts) all completing independent investigation in their own schools and classrooms. The programme has involved three days, one a term, of face to face support with the teachers (one day on planning action research, one day on analysing and one day on writing up and disseminating).
In addition to the support days, the teachers were given a support pack of research resources, data collections tools etc on the first day of the support. The second is with St Thomas More’s RC School in Blaydon where a researcher has been employed to complete face to face and email/phone support for teachers completing action research throughout the school year. Again these teachers were given the support pack of resources.
The Centre is open to enquiries about this type of work and costs are calculated on an individual basis depending on need.
