Errors in English: description, classification, explanation and remedy. (2002)

Author(s): Sercombe PG

Abstract: Despite a general shift towards more positive attitudes to language production idiosyncrasies, these are still often, and understandably perceived, by language teachers as perennial ‘problems’. This paper proposes a minimal framework-summary of the main variables for the classification and explanation of structural errors in the written work of learners of English as a second or foreign language, in the context of Southeast Asia, and concludes with some practical suggestions as to how teachers might deal with these.
