Working across a stable partnership of 60 schools, Newcastle University offer Primary and Secondary PGCE courses (Maths, Science, MFL, RE, History, English with Drama and Geography). We came top among five regional peers offering similar Secondary PGCE courses with a combined 'Very Good/Good Rating' of 92% and an overall satisfaction rating of 100%. We are delighted that our NQTs reflect so positively on the quality of our provision, which is based on a strong reputation for research informed, reflective practice and an outstanding partnership with local schools. We also had the biggest percentage increase among the group of peers we compared ourselves with. We are diversifying our offer in tune with the changing market place by investing in the development of new accreditation options combined with a vastly enhanced sense of 'school-led' provision. Exciting and innovative approaches to the collaborative design and delivery of ITT and CPD have been built into the forthcoming programme for 2012-13. Colleagues working on the PGCE course play a key role to in-house and outposted CPD and Masters module provision, including modules on coaching, thinking skills, assessment, action research and practitioner enquiry. Currently, we are exploring avenues of international short-term and long-term placements for our students (Europe and beyond).
The aim of this site is to provide an accessible source of news, communications, support and documentation for both schools who currently work in partnership with us and those would like to develop a training relationship with us.
We will be extending the content of the site during 2011-12 to include resources, journals, links and best practice case studies drawn from school colleagues. We would be delighted if you made regular visits to our site in order to keep abreast of our developments!
From the Secondary PGCE team.
