Gail taught in schools in the north-east of England then worked as an LEA advisory teacher before joining the university in September 2003.

Gail is a member of RIPE, an educational research cluster based in ECLS. The cluster's work examines the relationship between education and society from a range of critical theoretical perspectives.
Gail undertakes masters and doctoral supervision. She is particularly interested in supervising students with a critical research perspective on education and education policy.

Collaborators: Prof Dave Hill (UK), Prof Dennis Beach (Sweden), Prof Kostas Skordoulis (Greece), Theoploula (Polina) Chrysochou (UK/ Greece), Dr. Tom Griffiths (Australia) and collaborators from Turkey and possibly Ireland and Finland.
