EXTREME Technologies

Newcastle University has over many years developed unique expertise in wireless communications, sensors and devices for harsh environments. Following a recent £2.1M EXTREME programme contract with One NorthEast, Newcastle University has established a centre of research expertise in Extreme Environment Technology.

A wide variety of technologies are available to industry, at a high technology readiness level, from the EXTREME programme which include:

• Wireless sensor networks
• Sub-sea communications, Navigation & Instrumentation
• Through metal communications
• Silicon carbide sensors for high temperature, high radiation and harsh chemical environments
• Silicon carbide high temperature electronics and devices
