The Group is accommodated in the large purpose built Power Electronics, Drives & Machines Research Lab, equipped with specialist facilities and equipment, including: advanced circuit modelling, control simulation, test dynamometer and instrumentation for drives rated from milliwatts to tens of kilowatts and speeds from zero to 100,000rpm, advanced real-time digital control support, data logging. We have world-class dynamometer facilities that support test ranges of 150kW at 30,000 rpm (EPSRC grant EP/D022142) and 500kW at 20,000 rpm (SRIF3). Offices of research staff and students are adjacent to the laboratory, fostering both a high level of interaction, and effective deployment of skills and resources.
We also have the Centre for Advanced Electrical Drives which acts as the central focus for our industrial research activities. This facility includes private offices, laboratories and a meeting facility that allows us to undertake confidential research in collaboration with our industrial partners.
