Microelectronics Systems Design and Test Consultancy

Newcastle University's School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering hosts a Microelectronics Systems Design and Test consultancy team with particular focus on:

Consultancy Services: We offer consultancy in the Systems Design and Test area for large multinationals and SMEs. This includes research and development as well as adaptation or modification of existing hardware and software solutions to match new technologies and also design of new solutions (ASICs, SoCs, FPGA, EDA tools) for new system requirements.

Our team can help to assess existing system designs in line with functional requirements and business objectives, this can help companies to optimize their design solutions.

Areas covered by the team are as follows.

  • Specialist:
    1. System timing solutions
    2. Metastability characterisation and synchroniser design
    3. Low power and low EMI system design
    4. Hardware security and cryptographic engine design
    5. Timing measurement, test and validation
    6. EDA tools for secure and asynchronous hardware design
    7. Built-in test, concurrent error detection
    8. Modelling and analysis of Systems-on-Chip issues
    9. Variability analysis and characterisation
  • General:
    1. ASIC design using standard tools (Cadence, Synopsys) and prototyping with FPGA design kits (Altera, Xilinx)
    2. Off line and online testing, fault-tolerance solutions
